Bursitis
My condition began with a slight swelling on the area in front of the knee cap, after consulting with a primary care physician and being given an anti-inflamatory medication, along with instructions to elevate, ice, and rest my knee. I was not experiencing any pain or discomfort, nor did I remember having any injury to my knee. After 2 weeks of ice and rest...the swollen area had enlarged, to about twice the size or roughly the size of an egg. I contacted my physician to arrange for an orthopedic physician to evaluate the situation....I had an appointment 1 week later...xrays were taken, and the diagnosis was bursitis...again an anti-inflamatory prescription...instructions to ice and rest, and a neoprene bandage was prescribed...the area was also drained. The fluid was an amber color with blood mixed in also..indicating an injury? The area has a soreness..but at this time no pain. There was no evidence of infection. 24 hours later the area was again filled with fluid. I contacted the office and was told this sometimes happens, although not usually so quickly. I was informed that I should wait 2 weeks and call back with progress report. It has been 2 weeks of icing, rest, compression and elevation...no progress..area is still quite large and tissue surrounding the area tender....orthopedic opinion is not to drain the area again...either live with the situation or have knee surgery to remove the effected bursae sac...anyone have a similar condition?
