Could Carticel help my sister?
I would like to share my sister's story and ask other patients for information. She has been in an accident 1 year ago. She has recieved a back injury and knee trauma. Her back was operated on immediatly, but the knee problem was not seen as very pressing and was overlooked. Arthroscopy was later performed, and it revealed that her cartilage was destroyed. Physical therapy did not prove successful. She has then had an X-ray and an MRI. Those test confirmed the earlier diagnosis and also showed ruptures in tendon and ligament. Now her leg is not fully functional when she tries to walk, she has a limp, and is frequently in pain after intensive walking.
I am wondering whether she would be a good candidate for Carticel. Has anyone out there had autologous chondrocyte implantation with a similar injury?
Thank you in advance.
