Long rehab from ACL/MCL surgery

I am 37 today and had surgery a year ago to reconstruct my ACL and MCL from a basketball injury when I was 18. I just landed awkward after a rebound and my knee gave out. I heard the pop & tearing and was in extreme pain to the point of blacking out. The knee swelled up for weeks and I just thought I sprained it. A month later I injured it again playing basketball and tore it up even worse. Arthritis had developed over the years and I had no confidence or stability in my knee. The knee also locked up periodically and caused pain. It turned out that my meniscus was flipped over and that was tied back in place at the time of surgury. I am glad I had the surgery, but let me tell you, it is a long haul coming back. I am still working on the strength. But I now have a stable knee, and no more pain from the torn meniscus. The Doctor screwed my MCL back into my lower leg bone with a 3 inch screw. It may have to come out someday. The ACL was replaced with part of my patella tendon. The Meniscus has taken so far, it too may have to be shaved out someday. After my experience I am amazed how football players come back from an injury like this. Terell Davis had a similiar injury. I don't believe he will ever be the same!
