Well, heres my story. My boyfriend, and two of our friends where four wheeling in the woods, and we ended up falling off of a cliff. Rolled the blazer three times down the hill. After it stopped we all got out and made sure we were okay I couldnt stand, my knee I screamed! Since we were in the middle of NO WHERE, we had to find our way back to the main road, which was up the very steep hill we just fell down from. My wonderful bf had to carry me about 2 mile maybe more up the hill. We called our friends to come and get the four of us and take us to the hospital. we finally got up to the road and I saw them racing down the street. they passed us by and I started to scream they hit the brakes and came back. Thank GOD! So me and Michelle needed to go to the hopsital right away Jay my bf and paul her husband were okay but they wanted to get checked out. We got to the hospital and i was in so much pain. i was so scared of what was happening i didnt know what to do. We'll the xrays came and no sign of bone broken, so they gave me a number of a doctor to call and get a better look at me. my bf and i got home around 2 in the morning. I couldnt sleep all i could think about was us rolling! We'll the next day i had to brake the news to my parents. when i told them what happend they couldnt believe it. My dad took me to the doctors acouple days later and he order a MRI, week later he broke the news to me that it was my ACL and MCL i completely tore my ACL, and i was going to need surgery. I saw his mouth moving but i couldnt hear the words that were coming out. I needed knee surger?! what. the problem was i was starting school in four days! i attend CCAC. The doctor said without a doubt that I would be on cruches by then moving on with my life. So the surgery went good. After the never blocker was gone i was in soo soo soo much pain. I couldnt get off of my couch. My bf and my dad tried and i couldnt. Everytime i stood up it felt like my leg was being pulled off by a high speed train with a knive stabbing me. I had to pee in a bucket! for 2 weeks!!!! I missed my semester at school. I was NOT HAPPY AT ALL. And that machaine, screw that i couldnt get in it. The doctor yelled at me that i was not bending my knee, and how could i when the wrappin around my leg was wayyy to tight?! well it has been 9 months and no improvements. I went to get a second opinion, and he said to have the minulation done. So all of this has had me a little stressed out, and this is all i think about is what next with the knee OH yeah i forgot, i fell down my stairs in January i slipped on ice and buised my MCL. That set me back far and it added to the stress list. but next month i will be going in for sugery and im hoping to death that this will change evreything and i will be back to normal. If you have any suggestions please email me, i could use some help with this! thank you for listening to me tell my story, and i know im not alone!

i had what was called a modified macintosh with medial & lateral meinesectomy in 1976 by the late james arnold in fayetteville, arkansas. Dr. Arnold was the razorback orthopod @ the time & I just wanted to let it be known what a wonderful result I had. I beleive this procedure involved a hamstring transfer but it has held up very well. However I did develope a severe arthritis in my opposite hip that is requiring a hip resurfacing procedure. Anybody else out there who has had similar problems ? Thanks, Jim Herrington

My story starts at 17 diagnosed with ocd, surgery on rt knee, one year to recover, then thats right left knee also with ocd, for the next five years five surgeries, now I,m 47yrs old and all together 8 surgeries. There is not one day goes by that I don,t feel pain, but I,ve learned to live with it,when I was 17 we did not have websites like this one, I was pretty much on my own. I,m glad I could tell my storie, in the beginning I would say why me, I played every sport in high school so active it just did,nt seem fair. But then I finally just decided hay get over it and live my life deal with it, so I did, and now 30yrs later if I can help somebody just one person who might be down YOU CAN DO IT I,ve done it for 30yrs now with two knees , you can too, and hopefully for another 40yrs.

well to start off with how i did it..
i was playing in a football match when i went up to volly the ball. I only remember falling as i hit the goal keeper, but all of a sudden i heard i huge pop. it was one of those noises that you dont know if you felt it, or heard it out loud. The pain was unbearable and i found it hard to straighten my knee as it became so stiff. i instantly knew i had damaged something serious in my knee. ligaments sprung to mind. i was more worried about what would happen in 3 weeks time! i was going to austria to ski with school! (i still went)
as i am only 17 an acl is the least of your worries when you are young because you dont expect it at all!
months went past and i had tons of physio to find out what was wrong with it. it wasnt until 26/8/06 i was told what was wrong. and the doctor explained what he was going to do. he said i had ruptured my ligament and a possible meniscus tear. it didnt sound good. but if i was to be a p.e teacher he said i had no choice but to have surgery. so i went along with it.
days went past and the 25/10/06 came. i was nervous as i sat in my hospital room 7.
i had my BP taken and i the doctor who i had diagnosed me came in to say he was ready. i trusted him greatly as he was a knee specialist and a consultant. my mum also knew him as shes a nurse!
i walked slowly to the theatre and i layed down on the bed as the anesthatist put the tube in my hand. injecting me with loads of injections. i didnt feel them but as soon as he put the anesthetic in i tasted it. he said 'see you later' and the next thing i knew i had woken up! it had taken 2 and a half hours. i felt the pain and it did hurt a lot. i was given several painkillers but i didnt have any morphene. i was groggy and i kept falling back to sleep. i felt safe which was important as i forgot were i was for a second! i was taken back to my room were i was drifting on and off to sleep. i had more painkillers as i told them it still hurt. i had a federel nerve block in the top of my leg. if i didnt have that i would of been in a lot more pain! so my whole leg was numb. i could feel a thing! i asked to go to toilet and the nurse helped me out of bed and as i tried to step with my leg it just collapsed totally as i stepped forward.. so that wasnt a good idea. so i hopped!
the next day had an x-ray and physio to use my crutches and i had to wait hours to go home. as they wouldnt let me go until i could bear weight on my leg so it wouldnt collapse. i nearly had to stay in over night it took so long. finally i got home! it was painful. and still is! i cant play football for 6-10 months and it hasnt been a week since i had it done but i can tell the difference! im glad i had it done.

My story is similar to the last...I was camping about 5 years ago and just turned wrong and my knee popped loudly. Since then it has popped occasionaly and ached often. More recently when I accidently turn wrong it pops but then is very painful for about 3-4 days. It gives out often during this time and is hard to walk up/down stairs. I have been wrapping it which helps. It seems to happen more frequently now and takes less to agitate it. I am getting married in a few months and going on an active honeymooon. I am trying to wait to get on my fiances insurance in June but am afraid it may get worse! I appreciate any advice!
Thank you!

About 8 months ago I was skiiing and seriously twisted my left knee. I didn't noticed my knee was injured until the day after the accident because I had pulled a muscle in my right knee and the pain in that knee covered up the injury of my left knee for awhile. Once my right knee felt better, I started noticing I couldn't completely bend or straighten my knee, it was swollen for a long period of time after the accident, and I often felt discomfort walking, running or climbing up stairs, I was also a lot slower at running etc. (after 8 months i still am not as fast as I used to be). I figured it was just a minor injury and that exercize would do it good, so i would participate in lacrosse practice and games. After about a month or so I started to get a little bit worried because after making sudden turns or just randomly, my knee would give out for about 20 seconds and I would fall over or not be able to put weight on my left knee. The more problems I had with it the more I figured I had to exercize it. As summer came allong I felt like it was getting better so I stopped worrying about it. Then field hockey season started and I noticed how sometimes it gave out a little, but not as serious as before. I started to regret not seeing a doctor, even though I was sure it was some sort of minor acl injury, because I had all of the EXACT symptoms of an acl injury. I felt like it was so long ago that doctors would give me a hard time about not going sooner and that what could they do now that is been so long. That is why I am writing this. Should I still go see a doctor, even if it is feeling better? And if so, what will they likely say? Does my injury sound very serious? Will it get better over time with some exercize, or is exercize bad for it?
