Sept. 04 my left knee was replaced. Nov. 04 my right knee was replaced. I have continued to suffer with extreme soreness in the calf muscle of my right leg. I have soreness, heat, and pain in both knees. Both my knees crack and pop whenever I stand from a seated position. My dr continues to persist that they are FINE, and I only need to walk, walk, walk. I feel unsteady on my feet when I walk. I cannot go up or down steps without pulling myself up and holding onto railings to go down. I am concerned that I have suffered this tremendous pain and suffering without improving my mobility. My dr is very discouraging.

I fell down on ice with my daughter 12/7/03. I went to the ER and was told I had swelling. Slowly, the more I used my legs to walk to work from train, drive, or carry my daughter... I was unable to function without severe pain. MRI showed Chrondomalacia in Patella and Femoral Areas. I underwent Arthoscope of right leg showed all weightbearing joint to be lacking cartilage. Doctor says we will need a cartilage graft? Just underwent the left arthoscope. This knee shows meniscal tear, ACL tear, cap maltracking, fluid, cartilage damage behind knee cap. I feel I must have been placing all weight on right leg due to left leg injury, causing the weight bearing joint to have no cartilage. In interim, I am STILL IN PAIN. I can hardly walk on right leg. Has anyone had cartilage grafting. What other options, I tried "vitamins" they did not help. I am 29 mother of a 2 year old that needs to get back to work, but legs hurt tooo much. Is Meniscus done for? What about lack of cartilage in right leg???

I am using wheelchair and walker if I go anywhere far? Is this going to be permanent? Any good Philadelphia doctors for second opinion???

I am nearing my eighth week after having a right leg femoral osteotomy. It has gone more smoothly than I would ever had imagined. I went to the doctor last week and was told I could remove the leg brace and begin to bear full weight after being able to bear only fifty pounds of weight on the foot for seven weeks. I can walk without crutches although need them for balance on long walks. Pain is better as well as the position of my foot. I began swimming this week and feel great. He want to do my other leg in a few months but want to wait and see how this one is when strength is built up. I was expecting so much more pain and hassle than occurred after reading many online messages. I'm very happy I went through with it and hope it will postpone a TKR for years to come. Any other osteotomy stories out there. Hope yours are as good as mine!

At the age of 13 I had all of the lateral meniscus removed from my left knee. At 25 I was told to stop all impact activities to reduce the aggrivation. At 34 I could barely walk around the block for the arthritis pain. I had an osteotomy (in lieu of a total knee replacement)because I'd gotten so knock-kneed and the joint was collapsing. At 39 I won my first triathalon (although I shouldn't run). I bike avidly and mostly stay away from impact activities. The osteotomy was a bear and the recovery LONG (3 months on crutches - no weight bearing) but the results ALL worth it.

My Mother is 84 years old and has severe osteoarthritis in both of her knees. She is not a candidate for knee replacement. I am always looking for a way to alleviate her pain and to help her stand and maybe take a couple of steps. I heard about Dr. Jurgen Toft and abrasion arthroplasty and osteotomy. He is located in Germany and I doubt if we could make the trip to Germany. I would appreciate it if anyone can let me know if anyone in the United States uses this method. Also any other suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanking You in advance. Please respond to Connie_Osborne@bd.com

On may 4th, I had a osteotomy performed on my left knee. The reason I had this done, is after years of my knee swelling and all the pain I suffered I couldn't take it any more. After undergoing an artoscopic surgery it was determined by my physcian that I had osteo artiritis and my knee bones were hitting together and causing all the pain and swelling. My surgery went well and last week I was able to walk with just a cane and not too much pain. But wednesday I was on my carport and just took a step and hyperextended my knee.Well that was the end of my walking. It started swelling and I could not put any pressure on my leg at all. My Dr is out of town for two more weeks and that leaves me in a fix. I got my knee emobilizer back on and I'm with crutches again. Has anyone ever went though this.

Hi
I'm hoping someone can give me some direction to go in. In 06/00 had an osteotomy and knee surgery on left leg. Surgery was succesful until 11/00 when I got up from bed and experienced severe pain in left knee and pain goes down left side of leg below knee all the way to the toes and all throughout the ham strings. No p/t exercises or meds helped. Arthroscopy and plate removal on 01/01 helped some. Pain still severe Help! Stephen
