At the age of 13 I had all of the lateral meniscus removed from my left knee. At 25 I was told to stop all impact activities to reduce the aggrivation. At 34 I could barely walk around the block for the arthritis pain. I had an osteotomy (in lieu of a total knee replacement)because I'd gotten so knock-kneed and the joint was collapsing. At 39 I won my first triathalon (although I shouldn't run). I bike avidly and mostly stay away from impact activities. The osteotomy was a bear and the recovery LONG (3 months on crutches - no weight bearing) but the results ALL worth it.
