began having knee pain suddenly and it has not gone away for a week and a half. I am not a very active person but i am in good health. I walked about 1 mile the day before this knee pain began which isn't out of the ordinary. I have a hard time resting it, bending it, driving, sitting you name it it hurts right across the knee cap (in the middle). I had an ultrasound done so there is not a blood clot, awaiting xray results. Any ideas? I haven't hurt this knee in 10 years (then it was a football injury from being hit with a helmet on the side of my knee)

I have had knee pain for the past 5 years. At age 51 (female) it seems to be getting worse. I can walk easily but it is very painful to stand up from a chair, bed, or floor. I feel pain in my actual knee cap, plus aching in my knee area and calves. I've tried exercises to build up my thigh muscles but have seemed only to aggravate my knees in doing so! I've had a blood test which came out negative for any inflammatory diseases. Arthritis and longevity runs in my family. I'm hoping I can get some relief as the long years ahead seem bleak in this condition! Please help if you have any thoughts.

I just read a story about someone saying they had a lateral release and it did more harm then good. It sounds to me like he had a bad surgeon. I had that same procedure done on both of my knees when I was 19 and 20 (my doctor had been trying to get me to have it done since I was 14) and thanks to having a great surgeon I managed to have hardly any pain in my knees for a few years. I am now 27 and starting to have pain again, more then likely due to the fact that I have become active again with running, and was just diagnosed with PFS. To this persons claim that a lateral release doesn't work I beg to differ. Its alla bout the surgeon you have whether it will turn out for the best or not. I have managed to find yet another excellent doctor where I live now so I advise everyone to ask around for a doctor and hear feedback on previous surgeries he/she has performed before going ahead.

I'm trying to research and find out if any one knows why a burning knee pain exists without ryhme or reason.
It just begins out of the blue and burns terribly. It hurts to touch it, it hurts to lay with one knee touching another and a pillow isn't much better.
It burns after standing or walking for a short time.
If any one has an answer, please share it.

I was at basketball pratice and we were almost done. But I was on offence and my friend Megan through me the ball. I jumped up and got it then fell unbalanced and came back down awkward with a sudden twist. I ended up going to the er and getting it checked out. There was no sudden swelling right after. But the next morning it was swolen I couldn't tell it was my leg. Doctor sent me home told us maybe it was a sprain. But we thought differently. I couln't even come close to bending it stright or enward. We suspected something a little worse than a sprain. My swelling increased . We have been iceing it. It is still very tender. What should I do? What do any of you think it maybe . Please keep me in your preys . And i'll do the same for you guy's. Good night!

I have had knee problems for the last 7 months. I did not have any trama to associate with this problem. My knees Burn, ache, and have severe pain when walking for more than 10 min. I have been to many drs. and had all kinds of tests and they drs. say they have no idea how to help me. I have had Neurotin, Glucosimine with condroiton and MSN, a session of steriods, cortizone shots, Synvise shot, cold and/or heat treatments (cold makes it much worse), X-rays, Bone density test, Total Body Bone Scan, MRI of knee, Nerve Tests, Lidoderm patches (which have helped with the burning somewhat), and accupuncture.
I have been to my primary physician, an orthopedic dr. and surgeon, Nerve Testing Dr and pain management Dr.
When ever I walk - like in a grocery store- after a few minutes the pain is so severe I have to sit down. And it is still just as bad as when it started. I can be sitting quietly and the pain just grabs my knee and makes me jump, in bed it hurts to lay it on the mattress, lifting it from the side hurts. In general I am so tired of HURTING I dont' know what to do!
Do you have any further suggestions of what kind of Dr. to go to or treatments to check out?

Hi there,
I am a 43 yr old female and suffer from acute knee pain.
Previous to this pain i had grinding of the knee but it never gave me much trouble.
One night the darn cat was asleep on my right leg, so i kicked out sharply and never thought anymore about it. The next day i was fine walking, but getting up from a sitting position...and also sitting down was excruciating. Getting into the car was hellish also, seems the pain is worse when i try to put weight on it. Went to the doc's and took x-rays, she said i have arthritis in it, fair enough but why all of a sudden this pain after kicking out?? i want her to order an ultrasound or MRI, do you think this might uncover another underlying cause? Any help would be appreciated, also i'm rather overweight......Debra...
