  • I had a procedure done tuesday November 29 called Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy. I have never experienced pain in all my life like I am now. I end up waking up at 3-4 in mornin with severe pain. And not too mention the swelling I have in knee. I have some major bruising in my knee. I wished I could get the pain to go away. If anyone else has had a surgery like mine email me please. Id like to know. Also I keep bleeding in one little spot on my knee. I have compressed bandage on it. It keeps bleeding and wears me out. Thanks Jay

  • I went in for a small medial meniscus repair and came out with multiple chondroplasties and synovectomies on my left knee on July 21... little more than 1 month ago. I also developed a blood clot and had to be hospitalized for 4 days, 4 days after my surgery. Before this surgery, I was in excellent health and even jogged 2 miles the day before the surgery...I am 51 years young. Long story short...horrible recovery. I'm still on crutches and cannot straighten nor flex my leg normally. I will say that going to physical therapy 3 times a week for the past two weeks has helped...but it is slow going. I do my exercises religiously 4-5 times a day and ice for 10 minutes after each session. I've not had any pain meds, other than tylenol, for the last couple of weeks. For the first time in my life, I feel depressed and cry waaaay more than I've ever cried before. OK, part of it might be perimenopause, but 99% of this is due to being inactive and so dependent on my husband and friends. I'm just now starting to put maybe 20-30% weight on it while walking with the crutches; also, I started to do the stationary bike this week, but can not yet pedal all the way around. Instead, I do a rocking motion as far forward and then as far back as I can. I can't compare this recovery to anyone as I know of no one who has had this done. I just hope and pray, that with time and following PT exercises, I'll be off the crutches and at least able to walk normally again. I've come to the realization that slow and steady just might win the race!!

  • I had a tkr of the right knee and the dr. sent me home after 3 days, with scheduled outpatient therapy. My job requires lots of kneeling, so the dr. had me off work 3 months. Pain continued, 4 months later x-rays showed the replacement was pistoning in the lower leg! Dr. said the bone cement didn't hold and it required another tkr. This time he put in 2 screws in the lower joint and had me stay in the hospital 6 days for in-patient therapy. Another 3 months off work. It's now been 2 years, and the knee is still swollen and painful when moved laterally. Also I came out of the 2nd surgery with tingling and burning in the right heel. Later testing showed sensory neuropathy. Bummer!

  • In march 2001 as i arrived home from a friends. I tripped outside the house,to my horror somehow my right leg, had bent the wrong way,and i found myself (for what must have been seconds)holding the bottom half, looking at my foot. I knew instantly, i had done somthing serious, but was not ready for the reality of the situation.I was taken to hospital, were they didnt appear to believe what i was telling them. it was only my constant refusal to straighten my leg,(as i couldnt anyway) so they could x-ray it. they decided to put me under a general so as to make their own assessment.Iwas under for over 5 hours. When i woke i had a 10inch cut on my leg over the knee and beyond,a 6inch cut in my groin where they had taken a graft from to repair my shattered tibia. I was in hospital 2 weeks, could not weight bear, needed a walking frame, and was 10 weeks away from getting married.i felt uselss! couldnt do anything for myself.after many visits and 3 months and my wedding, the plaster cast finally came off,and the long hard road started.this is now 4years on and i am still suffering. will it ever end??.

  • Well, there sure are alot of people out there suffering from some sort of knee pain. I started out being told that I had Chondromalacia Patellae. I had OS do a lateral release on my right knee. This did not help. Then I was told by another OS that my knee caps sat high and my Tibials where rotated. Well I have have had the surgery done on both of my knees and I really don't feel like I'm any further ahead. If anyone out there has had the same problem I'd really like to hear from you. Thanks Cathy candcmcclure@tcc.on.ca

  • I had knee surgery 4 months ago for a cartlidge tear. I was still unable to walk up stairs or bend my leg, went to another specialist and he advised me to have further sugery for a lateral release,(which seems was the problem in the first place) because I am day 5 post op and can already bend my leg and do things I haven't been able to for 4 months.Future looks much brighter.

  • 12-31-2004, I was going surf early new years eve morning about 5am. I hoped over a hand rail landed and my left knee locked up and I could not walk. My friend went and got my 5speed car and I drove home(it was an experience). My mom Took me to the ER when I got home, by then my knee was locked at a 45 degree angle(it hurt), Then doctor rushed me to get a MRI. I had a Torn menicus and had to have surgery ASAP, on New Years morning I had surgery it lasted 2 hours, and it seemed like i just blinked my eyes and it was over. I hurt real bad the frist 3 days and still hurts 20 days later. I started therepy last week, and they say I'll make a full recovery. It hurts but it is important to keep your knee moving just don't put any weight on it. If you have any questions feel free to ask I'll be sitten around for awhile.
