  • I was playing soccer in December of 2007 when i twisted the wrong direction and went down. Luckly all my ligaments were still attached and healthy. I gave the injury a few months and the pain went away. I was at a school training camp and was running bleachers when i flew out of them backwards. I went to a doctor in Houston, Texas and he said that i had torn my meniscus and it had calcified and had to be taken out. I had that surgery done in October of 2008. The surgery went well but did nothing. I have seen another doctor since and had another surgery done and they removed plyka. That surgery went awsome and i could run a week after the surgery. Now the effects are that i can't do anything that has to do with moving faster than a walk. All the doctors i have seen have no idea what the problem is.

  • In mid June this year I dislocated my knee, twice in two days, on hoilday in Italy. I was put in plaster, came home and the plaster stayed on for 4.5 weeks. I have been in physio for 7 weeks and a recent MRI scan has showed up that that I have probably torn my Anterior Cruciate Ligament but my surgeon is not to keen to do ACL reconstruction in women over 40 - I am 45. My knee bend from physio is now very good but my knee is still very unstable and I am still on crutches (so nearly 3 months now) and I have still have not returned to work. My surgeon has now suggested arthroscopy to assess all the damage and he believes I may have also damaged my Medial Collateral ligament. At the same time as doing the arthroscopy my surgeon is going to perform a knee cap lateral release this is hopefully to provide more stabilty to the knee as my knee cap tends to pull to the right and may dislocate again. Can anyone out there tell me if they have had a similar injury and the treatment that I am about to undergo and what their results are. I'm very grateful to receive any emails and advice - thank you.

  • Please don't be insulted when I say, "I feel your pain," but I AM glad not to be alone. 9 mos ago, I had a bad fall and injured both knees. I had arthroscopy with chondroplasty on one and thought it was getting better...until I stopped the pain medication; now it's as if I never had surgery, and the pain is nearly as bad as when I first injured it. I'm told the other knee will likely require the same, but I don't have a reason to believe I'm better off having had the first surgery. The worst part is when I see disbelief in the eyes of my physician and physical therapist. I guess, "Ya had to be there," to appreciate the agony. My please for help seem to fall on deaf ears...guess they've heard it all before. I, too, have become increasingly depressed. Otherwise a lover of dance and exercise, it's KILLING ME to be unable to participate in these activities, to say nothing of the sleepless nights that rob my days of energy. IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO CARES AND KNOWS WHAT CAN BE DONE? I'M DYING OUT HERE, PEOPLE!! I JUST WANT MY LIFE BACK AGAIN.

  • Hello, 1 year ago I had a bad car accident. My knee cap was forced out of my knee and returned. This process caused many injuries on my knee. Its been a year now, I had surgery and all my internal tissues are fine. Last month my knee started hurting at the top left side of the patella. It turns out that I have a small fracture (about 0.8 mm) right where the muscle connects to the patella. This fracture is loose in my knee and causes me pain when I stretch. Have any ideas of what I should do? doctors recomend surgery. Could you tell me how the pos-surgery recovery is? Has anyone had a similar injury? thanks

  • Hi, my name is sue and about four months ago i missed a step in the stairs comming down and landed directly on my knee. I let it go for a while thinking it would heal on its own but not. Anyway xrays showed nothing, but the pain never went away. Now I was fed up of the pain so i went back to the doctors and I have an M.R.I. booked for the end of the month and I am seeing a surgeon also at the end of the month. They think its a meniscus tear but really i dont know because the pain is getting worse. Taking strong pain meds and anti-inflamitories for quite some time too with very little relief. My instinks say its is much worse than what they think becuase the pain is not only on the inner knee now but also in the knee cap and behind the leg and sometimes i cannot extend the knee fully, almost like it lock. Is there anyone out there who could tell me if you think it might be a miniscus tear or more...please?

  • Well were do i start, i had a MBA in 2003, nearly lost the leg, had many operations to try and fix it, like Ilizorfo frame put on due to nonunion, after 11months because srews and plates, were rejected. So the frame went on from thi to ankel, for 6 months, then slowly removed. Then needed to be rotated back into knee joint, with them breaking my fibla as well, now i have a 15 degree bend outward. only 75 degree bend. still can't walk or fully waitbare on my leg, its been almost 3years since it happen, To many operations to name them all:(. Now we are looking at TKR because i have not much carilage left in knee and servere pain, bones have now unighted but theres dead bone there aswell, I am told thats ok aslong as no infection gets in there. You name it i have all the frustrations i can take. I am only 35 years old woman,DO I GO AHEAD WITH TKR? ANYONE THATS BEEN IN CLOSE TO THIS PLEASE HELP? I have done everything that was asked of me, to recover, i know i have come a long way since i couldn't move even a toe,and the fact that the only reason i just keept my leg is that it would of been above knee amputation also that i have age on my side they told me, and that i could go through a lots and still of operations 11 and still counting to try and fix it. Sometimes i think they should of taken it. I know that i will never be the same but all i ask for is to walk. My surgon says its up too me to decide on TKR. Please if anyone can help, as i am grasping at straws now. Thanks.

  • I injured my right knee in 2003 which resulted in a full thickness tear of the miniscus. I experienced pain and swelling for a few months and went to physical therapy for it. in the MRI there was a piece of cartilage hanging off. Last november i was kneeling at work and my right knee got stuck in the squat position. since then my knee has been swollen to the point of disfigurement, i mean it literally hangs off to the side because it's so swollen. and i also experience my right knee twisting, and trying to dislocate. when it twists i can't walk on it. there is too much pressure. the pain i experience is a pinching pain inside the knee. my doctors have been shuffling me around. the say i have osteochondritis in both knees and that i have a weak patella but refuse to do anything to help. they say that its "normal" for the knee to give out, turn purple, and be swollen like this. it has been over a year and the problem has continued. Does anyone have this same problem? i think it has something to do with that torn cartiledge from 2003, but my doctor doens't agree.

  • I was playinig in a basketball game and when i went for a layup, i was closlined and sent to the floor landing on my knee. I had an MRI and an X-Ray and the doctor told me that i had bruised my Petella and one of the bones under it. I have been off it for 2 weeks now and there is still some fluid in my knee and when i crouch down there is presseure in the front of the knee and it intenses when i put weight on that knee. I am wondering if it is from the fluid in the knee or it is just the muscles from being loose. and i am also wondering if i would be able to play again after three weeks from what my doctor told me and if I will need any rehad.
