  • I am now into my 4th op and it gets no better, my last was Nov 05 and not even a year on and the pain is back and worse, I had both knees done and last year had realignment and the pain has worsened over the last couple of weeks obviously due to the cold weather and the osteoarthiritis, back to the doctors for me unfortunately, really dont know what options are left to be honest, perhaps new knees?

  • Hi I'm 16 years old and have been suffering from knee troubles since i was 11 I kept going to the doctors and all they said was come back if it hurts again. I did that various times and just got the same old story. Eventually, about 2 months ago, i went to a new doctor and she referred me for physiotherapy. the bad thing is, i still havent been given an appointment! Some days I can't even walk and am in excruciating pain. Today (20th March 2006) I visited the chiropractor and he diagnosed me with CP. It is a great relief to finally know what uis actually wrong with me. Although my doctor said there was nothing wrong with my bones and I didnt need an x-ray, the chiropractor told me I needed an x-ray and a scan to show how serious my condition is. I've found out that the state my knees are in would be perfectly normal if i was 75. I'm only 16! The chiropractor was surprised I hadnt been referred for treatment or to an orthopaedic surgeon much sooner. I find it quite annoying that I have known nothing about my condition for 5 years, despite visiting doctors repeatedly. The fact that I wasnt even given a vague idea of what could be wrong with me is quite shocking. Hopefully I should be given some treatment soon!

  • Hi I'm not has young as most of you with Chondromalica, I'm 33years old female and just been told by the Doctor that I have it. He did not make a big deal over it and acted as if in 6 to 8 weeks of therapy will fix the problem, he said no surgery. Is it true? I read these postings and it seems this is more serious problem than I'm aware of. Please someone fill me in on this.

  • Im 24 and for the last 18 months I've had a bad pain behind my knee cap if I jog for over 15-20 mins. I have been to a doctor about this injury but he didnt know what it was. From reading some books on sports injuries I think I may have C.P. but I'm not sure. Both of my knee caps are very loose in comparison to other people that I've checked. Running up stairs also gives me pain behind my knee caps. I love playing football and im worried that if I continue to get this pain my injury may get worse and may even affect my my joints long term. Do you have any suggestions of what my next step should be???

  • I fell down on ice with my daughter 12/7/03. I went to the ER and was told I had swelling. Slowly, the more I used my legs to walk to work from train, drive, or carry my daughter... I was unable to function without severe pain. MRI showed Chrondomalacia in Patella and Femoral Areas. I underwent Arthoscope of right leg showed all weightbearing joint to be lacking cartilage. Doctor says we will need a cartilage graft? Just underwent the left arthoscope. This knee shows meniscal tear, ACL tear, cap maltracking, fluid, cartilage damage behind knee cap. I feel I must have been placing all weight on right leg due to left leg injury, causing the weight bearing joint to have no cartilage. In interim, I am STILL IN PAIN. I can hardly walk on right leg. Has anyone had cartilage grafting. What other options, I tried "vitamins" they did not help. I am 29 mother of a 2 year old that needs to get back to work, but legs hurt tooo much. Is Meniscus done for? What about lack of cartilage in right leg??? Jennifer Please email me at home if you have gone through this. I have now had to go to doctor for depression of non-movement. • A few weeks ago i was diagnosed with chondromallacia patella. i sat in the hospital with the specialist explaining how he was booking me in for a lateral release in august but it isnt a cure, that there is no cure, and all i could think was, im 16 dammit, i'm too young, how the hell can this be happening to me? i am currently taking 11 tablets a day i have insoles in my shoes and my knees are permanently strapped up! if i dont have all this i cannot walk let alone get up and down the stairs of my college! i loved sports before hand, is there anyone who's had a lateral release and been able to play sports again? i havent done any more than walking in over 2 years, and the lack of activity alone is making me miserable, never mind the solitude of it, and the severe pain that can wake you up at 3am in tears! is there anyone who's had a happy ending from this horrid thing?

  • HI everyone, well I couldnt agree more that this is a real pain and I mean that literally.I feel lucky I have been dealing with this for the last 6 months but after reading all I can find on CP its very depressing, I was hoping to find a solution but aparently there isnt one. I find the hardest thing for me to deal with is the lack of sleep the pain becomes so intense at times I just want to cry. I did see an orthopedic surgeon which he infomed me that when a person has this condition they can do surgery but there are 50/50 odds it can either get better or worse I'm sorry but those are not good enough odds for me and after reading some of the posts here I think I am right. My orthopedic Dr sent me to physcial therapy but I only went twice it seem to make it worse and since he doesnt belive perscribing anything for pain I refused to go back. I am going to be seeing a new Orthopedic Dr tomorrow 12/8/04 he is supposed to be a pain specialist. My one question is that with CP I have noticed that my gait (walk) is different and now I have a tremendous amount of pain in my right hip, to the point that I can only sleep (when I sleep) on my back or my left side. I am wondering does anyone seem to have the same? oh by the way my CP is in my right knee. Thanks for being here everyone. Lisa

  • Hi there, I also have CP and I hate the pain, I´ve been in rehabilitation for two months, but I´m feeling just a little better, but I want all of you to know this: This is an injury that including the doctors have no answer how it comes to us, but you have the strenght inside yourself to throw it up from your body; excersices are the FIRST STEP (you can see a few of them in www.www.tusalud.com.mx/220903.htm there are in spanish but the photos are so clear I find them by internet also; SECOND STEP is to keep moving, if you stay at bed, at wheelchair or whatever your musles will never get better, I know it hurts a lot but try to do more by yourself; you can help yourself with antiinflamatories such as naproxen or ibuprofen or if you can go to a therapyist try the laser it worked good for me!!! And THIRS STEP BUT NOT LEAST, trust in God in Isaiah 53 He promise to take all our sickness and injuries, believe in Him and He will help you, just pray in the name of Jesus as I am praying for you right now, God Bless and Heal you soon!!
I'm 14 and a dancer and I need your help!

  • I am 14 years old and I am a serious dancer. Dance is the one thing I have to get away from the stresses of everyday life. I get to have time to just let my feelings loose and not think about boys, family, money problems at home and school work. Everything was going fine until I suffer 2-3 blows to my left knee. My parents thought I was just being a cry baby. About a year of me complaining, they finally took me to the doctor, who informed me that I have chondromalicia patellae. He told me that because dance is my passion I should not have to quit. He then prescribed me physical therapy. I went to physical therapy and things got better and my knee stopped hurting. About a month later, the pain has come back now and it's worse than ever. Dance doesn't make me happy anymore. Sometimes, it is so painful I start to cry in the middle of class. It's not fair because I am only 14 and I shouldn't have to go through this. Bending down to my bottom locker is unbearable and going up the stairs is my school is so painful. I can't stand this and I complain everyday, but my dad doesn't seem to realize how serious this is. I mean I tell him constantly he just think I am overexaggerating. I wanted to have anthroscopy, but I was unsure how long I would be away from dance, plus my dad would never pay for it since he believes there is nothing wrong with. I am so desperate right now. Please help!
