  • Well it's only been about four weeks since sergury and so far I don't like the results. I've heard that only 50% people fully recuver from a lateral release but I've also heard that 70% fully recover. My doctor went into my knee looking for a torn meniscus but found out that it wasn't torn, but he did find out that my knee cap wasn't tracking right and was causing the cartilage behind my knee cap to frey. So he preformed the lateral release and after that he told me that he couldn't promise me that I would be the runner that I used to be and I'm one of the best distance runners in 1A in the state of Kansas. I sometimes feel more pain now than before. So if there is anyone that has had a lateral release and would be willing to e-mail to me how they're doing, good or bad, I would appreciate it.

  • I have had knee problems in the past due to being an active child. I played ice hockey as a kid and into my teens and hurt my knees several times. Now i am older i am a nursing assistant and i have been out of work for almost three weeks due to bursitis, my right knee swelled up like a balloon and became tight and very painful for me to straighten it out or even get comfortable to sleep at night. i was seen by my doctor and his colleages and the recommended me to see and Orthopedic doctor. My doctor hinted that they may either go with cortisone shots or recommend surgery. I am partly concerned as to know what to expect and how to prepare myself mentally and emotionally. i know that in all cases my health comes first and that's what i need to understand is what is best for my condition. Can anyone answer me? If you can even the slightest bit of information would be great. thanks

  • When I went to my family doctor with my knee pain, he pressed on the side, which caused pain. He told me it was bursitis, and recommended cortisone shots. Had to shots and pain did not subside. Went to an orthopedic doctor, who had x-rays take of both legs. Told me it was osteoarthritis. I tald him I was takin ibuprofen, and he suggested I up the dosage. I walk every day, and use a threadmill as long as I can. Any suggestions? Marian

  • After a week of pain in my left knee, I went to my doctor who diagnosed bursitis. He recommened moist heat and ibuprofen. The strange thing is, while I have discomfort sometimes during the day, it is about 1:30am when I awake in intense pain around my kneecap. The skin is painful to the touch and when I get up and walk, the pain is usually relieved. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. Could this be a nerve problem?

  • My condition began with a slight swelling on the area in front of the knee cap, after consulting with a primary care physician and being given an anti-inflamatory medication, along with instructions to elevate, ice, and rest my knee. I was not experiencing any pain or discomfort, nor did I remember having any injury to my knee. After 2 weeks of ice and rest...the swollen area had enlarged, to about twice the size or roughly the size of an egg. I contacted my physician to arrange for an orthopedic physician to evaluate the situation....I had an appointment 1 week later...xrays were taken, and the diagnosis was bursitis...again an anti-inflamatory prescription...instructions to ice and rest, and a neoprene bandage was prescribed...the area was also drained. The fluid was an amber color with blood mixed in also..indicating an injury? The area has a soreness..but at this time no pain. There was no evidence of infection. 24 hours later the area was again filled with fluid. I contacted the office and was told this sometimes happens, although not usually so quickly. I was informed that I should wait 2 weeks and call back with progress report. It has been 2 weeks of icing, rest, compression and elevation...no progress..area is still quite large and tissue surrounding the area tender....orthopedic opinion is not to drain the area again...either live with the situation or have knee surgery to remove the effected bursae sac...anyone have a similar condition?
