torn cartlidge

I had a good size tear in the meniscus. Had surgery done 6 months ago to have it repaired. Now, my doctor wants to remove the meniscus since it is still swelling, numb, and I can not kneel on the knee. Should I have the surgery and deal with the pain or go for the surgery?
