Rangers' Goalie Undergoing Surgery

Rangers' Goalie Undergoing Surgery

April 03, 2000 |
NEW YORK (AP) - New York Rangers goaltender Mike Richter will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, ending his season with four games to go.

Rehabilitation is expected to last six months, extending into the Rangers' training camp in September.

The 33-year-old Richter suffered the injury playing in the NHL All-Star Game's skills competition Feb. 5 in Toronto and then tried to play through it.

The 12-year NHL veteran posted a 22-31-8 record and a 2.87 goals-against average on a team that offered little defensive support.
