Verba to miss two games due to knee injury

November 22, 1999 |  GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Offensive lineman Ross Verba will miss at least the Green Bay Packers' next two games after suffering cartilage damage to his right knee.

Coach Ray Rhodes said the damage was discovered when Verba's knee was examined Monday. Verba left Green Bay's 26-17 win over Detroit in the third quarter Sunday.

Rhodes said it was too soon to make long-term predictions about the injury, but Verba would miss at least next Monday night's game at San Francisco and a Dec. 5 game at Chicago.

Verba, a third-year pro from Iowa, started 37 straight games at left tackle for the Packers. He became the starter in the fifth game of his rookie season in 1997, eventually becoming the first rookie to start at left tackle in a Super Bowl.

Second-year lineman Mike Wahle took Verba's place at left tackle on Sunday.
