PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix Suns rookie Shawn Marion underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last Thursday.The team set no timetable for his return.
The Suns signed 6-foot-9 forward Ben Davis to bolster its depleted frontcourt. Davis had been playing for the Idaho Stampede of the Continental Basketball Association, where he averaged 18.4 points and 7.5 rebounds.
Davis was an all-Pac-10 player at Arizona as a senior in 1996 and was a second-round draft pick of the Suns, the 43rd pick overall. He played 20 games with Phoenix as a rookie and played part of the last two seasons with the New York Knicks. He's played in 35 NBA games, averaging 1.4 points and 1.3 rebounds.
Marion, a first-round draft pick who was starting before he was hurt, was placed on the injured list Dec. 5. The 6-7 forward from UNLV is averaging 10.1 points and 5.7 rebounds.
The Suns also have Penny Hardaway on the injured list with a sore right foot. He is eligible to return Jan. 4.
Tom Gugliotta remains on the active roster but has missed four games after having a seizure on the team bus in Portland last Friday night. He might be back with the team Sunday when the Suns are home against Golden State.
Luc Longley has missed seven games because of back spasms, but was back in uniform Thursday night against Dallas.
