Detroit AP--Detroit captain Steve Yzerman is out of the Red Wings' lineup indefinitely after undergoing surgery Monday to repair torn cartilage in his right knee.
Yzerman was scratched before Sunday night's 4-2 loss to the Calgary Flames in Detroit because of the sore knee, which kept him out of the Wings' final two preseason games and their first two regular-season matchups.
His agent, Larry Kelly, was not immediately available for comment. The team also didn't return a call seeking comment, but said in a release announcing Yzerman's arthroscopic surgery that no roster movement is being reported at this time.
He was injured in Detroit's Sept. 28 exhibition victory over Toronto, in which he fell over teammate Maxim Kuznetsov. He was placed on injured reserve Oct. 3 and reactivated a week later.
Yzerman is in his 18th season in Detroit.
