MRI Clears Seahawks Q.B. To Play

October 19, 2000 |  KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP)—Brock Huard's right knee is in better shape than was feared, and the Seattle quarterback might play against Oakland next Sunday.

An MRI test performed Monday showed that nothing was torn in Huard's knee, which was injured in the fourth quarter of the Seahawks' 37-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Huard, Seattle's new starting quarterback, suffered a bruised knee and a slightly pulled right groin in Sunday's game.

Starting his second game in place of the demoted Jon Kitna, Huard completed 19 of 26 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He failed to produce a touchdown in his first start the previous week at Carolina.

Coach Mike Holmgren liked Huard's performance, but didn't want to make any predictions about his young quarterback's future.

"It's a good start, but he has to put a few of them together before we can determine this thing," Holmgren said.

Huard will be listed as questionable for the Seahawks' next game in Oakland, which means he has a 50 percent chance of playing.

Holmgren said Huard will play against the Raiders even if he's not healthy enough to practice this week.

"If he can practice, I want him to practice," Holmgren said. "If he can't, Jon will take the snaps."

Huard said he expected to be able to play against the Raiders.

The groin injury is "a little bothersome, but I fully expect to be ready to go," he said.

"That's football," he said. "The one thing you understand on that level is there are a lot of guys in the locker room who are hurt and who are going to have to play hurt Sunday."
