Giants' First Baseman Has Surgery

January 26, 2000 |  SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco Giants first baseman J.T. Snow has undergone minor surgery on his left knee.

The 20-minute arthroscopic surgery was performed last weekend to clean up a small amount of irritation under his kneecap, general manager Brian Sabean said Tuesday.

``This discomfort comes with the normal wear and tear of his profession,' said Stan Conte, the team's athletic trainer. ``It was decided to perform the minor procedure to assure no problems would occur during the season.'

Snow, who batted .274 with 24 home runs and 98 RBI last season, was expected to be ready for spring training in five weeks.
