Well, I think that a study with 34 participants doesn't say much, if anything, about the widespread usefulness of low-frequency EM pulses as an osteoarthritis treatment. That said, sure, I would try it. It is an attractive alternative to prescription drugs, though one that's not applicable for children or people with pacemakers or other electrical implants.

It's difficult to know about the long-term side effects of this type of EM radiation until more studies have been conducted, but in general low frequency electrical and magnetic pulses do not have an adverse biological effect. So, I wouldn't worry about side effects or medical concerns for short-term use.

In other words, I can't think of a reason not to give it a try, but I wouldn't be convinced about its efficacy just yet. This blog post mentions some of the contrasting viewpoints.

I'm curious what you think of the new study on electromagnetic pulses for knee osteoarthritis. Would you try this? They say it has no side effects! What questions would you ask your doctor before trying it?

I think this is going to be a huge thing for pain management in the knee community but also elsewhere. Imagine if there were a way to use pulses and vibrations instead of prescription drugs or pain medication!

What do you think?
