You should expect 4-6 weeks of wearing a knee brace, at the very least. Your doctor may also want you to use crutches or a cane in the beginning stages of recovery to keep your weight off the knee. When you're ready, you'll start physical therapy, which may last for over three months depending on how well your recovery goes.

Good luck!

My surgeon has just tried everything for my knee. The last was a cortisone shot 2 weeks ago but barely helped. He said if there was not a decent amount of relief then arthroscopic surgery time when I see him in Novemeber and then total knee replacement later since I'm to young now. What do I need to expect after the chondromalacia surgery like crutches, brace, or whatever and for how long?
