EXPERT ADVICE: Frequently Asked Questions
Patellar Tendonitis
Q: What are the treatment options for a chronic patellar tendonitis (over 6 months) other than rest, NDAIDS and patellar taping and quads rehab? Is there a surgical option?
Answered by Jack Farr M.D. on March 20, 2002
A: Before considering surgery, be sure you have optimized conservative care. Did you fully comply with rest, eccentrics and stretching? There are deep healing response massage techniques and soon sound wave technology that offer non-operative means of management. Surgery, when indicated is directed at removing non-healing tissue and then stimulating the local environment to elicit a healing ingrowth of new tissue.
