i had a "scope procedure on tuesday and i felt ok when i got home. but now, two days later, my knee looks like a grapefruit, and it really hurts. i've tried to put just minimal weight on it, but it wants to buckle. am i expecting too much too fast?

He serves on the board of the Orthopedic Research Foundation and is medical director of www.cartilagerestoration.org and www.myknee.md, where emphasis is on exploring new ways to treat damaged cartilage. Dr. Farr is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).


Answer:
Only your surgeon can comment on what is normal for your post operative course. In general, multiple factors contribute to swelling. These are in turn related to the problem being treated. For example, removing a single loose body might be expected to cause less swelling post operatively than extensive scar tissue excision. Do not hesitate to contact your surgeon, to discuss your particular situation.
