Clinical Overview Symptoms Take Action Diagnosis and Treatment

Patellofemoral Syndrome

Symptoms

  • Pain in the front of the knee, especially when using stairs or climbing up or down hills
  • Squatting, lunging
  • Pain may radiate toward back of knee
  • Cracking or grating in the knee
  • A history of recurrent clicking
  • Knee seems to "catch"
  • "Theatre sign" – The knee is especially painful after long periods of sitting such as in a movie theatre.
