A bone or soft tissue neoplasm can cause pain, discomfort or swelling. Often, the pain is brought on by a minor trauma that draws attention to a sore area. There is no specific type of pain caused by neoplasms. There can be sharp, dull, or aching pain. It may be directly related to the area with the neoplasm or may be referred pain from a distance. Sometimes a mass can be felt, but if there is a large amount of surrounding tissue, it may be difficult to feel. Statistically, the most common symptom is pain.
