Medications Do NOT take aspirin. It can make the gout worse by slowing down the excretion of uric acid. Possible medications include: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as indomethacin; colchicine for joint pain; allopurinol to keep the body from producing too much uric acid; probenecid to help get rid of extra uric acid.
