Procedure
If there are large amounts of fluid restricting motion, it is often drained from the knee using needle aspiration. This is only a temporary solution, however; it is the duty of the doctor to discover the underlying cause of the swelling.

Addressing the underlying cause will prevent knee swelling and its recurrence.
